Maya Catchpole's
Portfolio

I am 19 studying a Bachelor of Communications and Media, doing a specialist major in Marketing at the University of Canberra. I am very passionate about the media and I am loving all aspects of my degree, from different foundations of marketing techniques, to the digital design aspects. I moved to Canberra from Brisbane for this degree specifically and it was the best decision I have ever made.

I am a hard worker and always looking for the best opportunities. I have 4 years of a variety of hospitality experience, I love working around good food, culture, dining and customers. I also have a strong passion around fashion, beauty and design, which I'd love to explore more in the future.

I am currently in my second year of university and undertaking a Internship with Pialligo Estate. Where I undergo taking, developing and performing social media and event content.

This composition uses repetition to explore how fashion shape’s identity, perception, and mass appeal. It is my most simplistic and visually basic composition. I didn’t want to over complicate it or overwhelm the image and thought it was most effective left blank.

In this piece I focused heavily on asymmetrical balance. I used portrait photos of my younger sister as my base, taken at different angles and directions. When placed together they appear concise but uneven. I incorporated different body parts, isolating and layering them to connect to the way fashion explores identity, and can construct itself around these features. I kept the features spread out and uneven to create that asymmetrical balance, drawing the audience’s eye across the page to provoke curiosity and movement. The fragmented body features reveal how fashion is constructible and creative, leaving interpretation to onlookers themselves.

We Can All See.png

We can all see

"We Can All See" is a photoshop composition that explores the visual contrast. It draws attention to the illuminated white face and white eye in the centre, becoming a symbol of heightened observation and gaze, which are prominent in fashion and its identity. The text “we can all see” stands as a statement to challenge the viewer. It implies everyone is watching in the fashion industry, but also poses the question ‘what do we see, and what are we meant to see?’.

This composition was orginally sketched, then painted with acyclic paint and then further I copied them by hand into illustrator to make them into digital illustrations.

Narrated Video Story

This composition is a 90 second film I directed and filmed for a university assignment. Interpreted of the theme ‘after that, everything changed’, specifically drawing on and demonstrating the use of principles of composition, continuity, and montage.

VIXEN

Linked below is a website that I coded, developed and designed. Using skills and techniques to highlight principles of interaction and user-centred design. The webpage is a virtual gallery containing pieces from the Power House Museum. Exploring woman’s fashions from the 1960s-1980s focusing on visual fashion culture that are representable as feminine.

My Aim

I’m passionate about great food, wine, service, and atmosphere. With experience as a fine dining waiter, I understand the importance of creating tailored, memorable experiences for customers, something I aim to translate into marketing. I want to help brands bring their stories to life online, showcasing what customers can expect and where to find it. My goal is to help people explore and experience the best of Canberra’s food, wine, and local landscape. I would also love to expand into different industries where customer experience is the number one role, with in fashion, beauty, automotive or design. All through creating material and content to display the brands true identity.
